Venezuela has always been my dream destination. When I was seven years old, I discovered that it is home to the highest waterfall on earth and I’ve believed that childhood dreams are meant to be followed without questioning them. Our three weeks in the country were incredible. The landscapes are simply ridiculous, some of the most beautiful and diverse I have ever seen, but there’s more to Venezuela than its scenery. The people are incredibly strong, deeply hospitable, and fiercely proud of their country, even though they are living through extremely hard times under a dictatorship. Venezuela is marked red on every travel advisory, and visitors are warned to stay away from Caracas, yet we experienced a very different country. One that exists right beside the headlines but is constantly overshadowed by the negative.
